Stephens Park Village

Old Oak Cliff Conservation League Grants

Another wonderful facet of the OOCCL is a grant program that it extends to the member neighborhoods, including Stevens Park Village. These grants can cover a wide range of subjects and projects. The OOCCL reviews and decides on the grants, then if awarded, matches funding to a certain percent for the project. The available grant money for 2008 was $15,000.00! Towards this end, I would like to appeal to all of us SPVers for a 2 part challenge: first, put on your thinking caps and submit suggestions for grant ideas. No editing here -- if you think we need more seasonal plantings at the street closure or neighborhood entry signage beds -- jot it down. If you have great ideas for the two green common spaces -- jot it down. Let your imagination go wild in creative ways to better our neighborhood. Secondly, when the OOCCL considers a grant award, they also want to know how the neighborhood will raise additional monies to complete the funding for the grant project. So while you're being creative on the grant projects themselves, I also want fund raising ideas as well. Bake sale? Our own home tour? An additional garage sale? Again, no editing! This is a great opportunity for us as a neighborhood. Either email your ideas to JB Jones at board@stevensparkvillage.org or write them down & put them through my mail slot at 2214 West Colorado. I'd like to put a deadline for receiving these of September 30, which gives the board time to review, decide, and proceed with the grant applications before next year's May 31st deadline. I know that we can come up with some great ideas here!
